By Rob Pulsifer, Hill York Director of Energy Services – “I didn’t see it then, but it turned out that getting fired from Apple was the best thing that could have ever happened to me. The heaviness of being successful was replaced by the lightness of being a beginner again, less sure about everything. It freed me to enter one of the most creative periods of my life.” ~ Steve Jobs

Upon his return to Apple, Steve Jobs helped coauthor the invention of the iEverything: iPod, iPhone, iMac, iPad, iTunes (selling more than 5 million songs a day), iBooks, etc. You get the point. By reinvention, Apple is not suffering the same fate as other large companies such as Kodak, Blockbuster Video, or even the US Postal Service.

Before I came to Hill York, the company had already reinvented some of its offerings with the creation of the energy services performance group. Years later the company chose to partner with Trend Controls as a means of differentiating our offerings in the energy space.

Recently, Bob Alfonse and I had the opportunity to participate in the annual Trend conference (pictured above) and to our delight Hill York received an award for excellence. This annual award is presented to one Trend dealer who demonstrates significant year over year growth, a repeatable and sound business strategy, and demonstrated sales and implementation success.

To date, Hill York has numerous Trend controls projects installed throughout Florida in commercial buildings, higher education facilities, in healthcare markets, and municipal complexes. Hill York has in-house expertise with a Certified Trend IQ engineer who is Tridium AX-certified, in addition to Energy Engineers and field technicians who have completed design and implementation coursework at Trend training centers.

So who is Trend and is the award significant? A few things to consider:

  • Trend is part of the Honeywell family and represents one of its dealer control chains.
  • How large is Trend America’s business in revenue? $85M and growing rapidly.
  • How large is it worldwide? $1B total contract revenue.
  • How many companies were eligible for consideration of the award? 15.
  • How many total dealers are there in the Trend network? 78.

Hill York is currently utilizing our controls business to support and grow our energy business.  Our clients are getting tremendous value from bundled turn key solutions with sole source accountability.  We look forward to continued success and growth of our energy service business.
