Hill York is proud to call Apprentice Carlos Norfleet a Hill Yorker. Carlos is one of the August 2013 graduates of United Association’s (UA) Veterans In Piping (VIP) HVACR program.
Before joining UA Local #725, Carlos, served in the U.S. Marine Corps and U.S. Army from 1989 to 2013, doing several tours all around the world. He is a great addition to the Hill York family!
UA’s VIP program assists service members with transitioning from military service directly into skilled-trade employment. Begun in Lacey, WA in 2008 the program was redesigned this year to support the Veterans Opportunity to Work (VOW) to Hire Heroes Act. After successfully completing 18-weeks of pre-apprenticeship training, VIP graduates are placed directly into apprenticeship careers with one of the 300 unions nationwide. This is as much as one year ahead of their civilian counterparts. This guarantees Veterans a promising career in the piping industry with full health and retirement benefits. Additionally, VIP graduates earn college credit for the training and after completing four years of apprenticeship; they have an opportunity to earn additional credits towards an Associate degree at no cost.
