Hill York Supports Hooked-on-Kids-Fishing-Tournament

Hill York CEO, Chip Lafferty and family helped to reel in and raise more than $90,000 in support of Sheridan House’s children and families during the Hooked on Kids Charity Fishing Tournament. The Lafferty family sponsored a fishing boat along with 25 fellow sponsors creating a sea of fisherman fishing to make a difference August 8, 9 at the exclusive Ocean Reef Club in Key Largo, Florida.

The event spanned a weekend and included a Captain’s Party dinner, silent auction and fishing tournament. Business throughout South Florida pulled together to support Sheridan House families by participating as either a sponsor, an underwriter or an angler while BBI, Burdette Beckmann, Inc., stepped in as title sponsor.

With so many fun-filled activities planned, event attendees never imagined they would be facing storms the day the 26 boats dropped anchor. Midway through the tournament they had encountered a huge storm and by the end, more than half the boats weathered the storm as they continued fishing for their cause. The proceeds from the 2013 BBI Hooked On Kids Charity Fishing Tournament will directly benefit Sheridan House in providing Answers for Today’s Family.

Sheridan House was established in 1968 as a home for boys with behavioral issues. Since then, the Sheridan House Residential Program has grown from one home caring for eight boys to five homes caring for almost 70 middle-school aged boys and girls each year. Additionally, over the last 40+ years, the vision to help today’s family has expanded dramatically. In their quest to respond to families in need, they created a social services division for single parents who are currently experiencing a serious short term economic need.
