December 2012 | A Tale To Tell as Hill York Rings The Salvation Army Bell.

It is that time of year again, time for Sarasota Hill York to sign up and ring the Salvation Army Bell at Publix! The Sarasota branch has been ringing the Salvation Army Bell for five consecutive years and through that commitment we have raised thousands of dollars. This year we’re committed to a full eight hour day of cheerful bell ringing. In fact, this give back to our community is one of our most joyfully anticipated holiday events of the year.

The Salvation Army was founded in 1865 in the United Kingdom by two people, William and Catherine Booth, and has grown worldwide in 122 countries. Specifically, the Salvation Army is active in 5,000 communities in the United States. The organization donates all monies and proceeds to provides services for people in need such as homeless services, senior services, soup kitchens, emergency assistance and many other similar services.

Mark Kerney, C.O.O. at Hill York, writes “we had so many givers that, towards the end of the night, the donors were having trouble stuffing the money in the bucket because it was so full. Yes, we had our fair share of people who wouldn’t even look at us when they left the store, but they were few and far between. The fact that a large majority stopped what they were doing, turned around and opened up their wallets or purses to drop some money in the bucket made me change my cynical mind about people.”

The Salvation Army continuously recognizes our volunteer dedication as they graciously allow us first pick to choose our Bell Ringing day and location.

You too can ring the bell and bring aid to families in need. We highly encourage you to participate and learn about the Salvation Army’s many volunteer services.
