Leesburg, FL – For nearly 50 years, Leesburg Regional Medical Center, part of Central Florida Health Alliance, has been serving the community’s healthcare needs. Leesburg Regional is committed to providing quality care and service excellence, which includes energy efficient operations. On a national level “Healthcare organizations spend over $6.5 billion on energy each year, and that amount is rising to meet patients’ needs. By being more energy efficient, hospitals around the country can save money, help prevent greenhouse gas emissions, improve the air quality of their communities, and support their commitment to public health.”
Recently, the South Campus of Leesburg Regional and the Day Surgery Center underwent a major infrastructure improvement project to increase the energy efficiency and comfort of the facilities. The products and initiatives put in place have improved conditions for patients, the facilities operations and the environment.
The comprehensive program will reduce existing operational expenses of Central Florida Health Alliance by over $175,000 per year. The project will fund itself through the reduced cost and will generate positive cash flow over the life of the systems installed. Through a strategic partnership with Hill York’s Energy Solutions Group, Central Florida Health Alliance reduced its utility costs, improved its overall indoor comfort and environment, and reduced its overall environmental impact. The reduction in electric and natural gas consumption and resultant reduction in greenhouse gas emissions is equivalent to removing 230 passenger vehicles from Leesburg roads each year.
How were these results achieved? Simply, collaborative vision between Hill York, Florida’s leading Air Conditioning Services and Energy Solutions provider for more than 75 years, and Central Florida Health Alliance. “It was important to partner with a company who not only could identify the projects that would reduce our costs, but also implement and service them long term. Hill York has a track record of success in providing energy solutions to clients and working with them has been terrific” stated David Taylor, System Director, Plant Operations/Facilities. “Based on their approach to energy conservation, their company history, and track record, Hill York was the obvious business to partner with for Central Florida Health Alliance.”
Early in the process, Mr. Taylor began qualifying energy service providers and met with Rob Pulsifer, Director of Energy Services for Hill York, whose entire career has been dedicated to energy efficient solutions for his clients. Mr. Pulsifer brought his experience in energy efficiency programs to bear and a partnership was born.
After engaging the services of Hill York, Central Florida Health Alliance initiated a multifaceted infrastructure improvement plan that includes advanced building controls, premium efficiency chilled water systems, energy recovery ventilators, an energy dashboard and ongoing energy services.
As a result of the program savings, Leesburg Regional Medical Center is in the process of evaluating a comprehensive Phase 2 Energy Project with Hill York Energy Solutions. The project will be aimed at reducing operational costs in the boiler plant of the south campus and improving the overall energy efficiency of the North Campus.
