April 2013 | Hill Yorkers Spring into Action and Donate Clothing, Accessories, and Home Goods in Support of Sheridan House Family Ministries

Spring essentially is a season of transformation. March marks that special time of year we witness a blossoming of nature, a change in weather, an awakening of our senses, a desire to “spring clean”, and even a renewal of mind, body and spirit. So it’s easy to understand why Hill York chose March to kick off their year-long collection of clothing, accessories, and home goods in support of Sheridan House Family Ministries.

Hill York’s clothing collection encourages Hill Yorkers to donate new, nearly new or gently-used items year round to the Sheridan House Clothing Boutique benefiting the Single Mother’s Ministry. After just one month, Hill Yorkers have donated several bags of clothing, shoes, handbags, and even a sorbet maker!

The process is simple. Hill Yorkers conduct a spring cleaning of sorts to find items suitable for donation; they bag the items, label the bags and deposit them at the specified drive boxes. The bagged donations are brought to the Sheridan House at the end of each month. They are sorted and placed in the Clothing Boutique.

You may be wondering why the Sheridan House Clothing Boutique is so special to the single mothers of Sheridan House. It is a free, feel-good, shopping experience unlike any other. It is an opportunity to choose items and household goods that help bring comfort to their lives and their children during a challenging time.

Rather than simply supplying a “hand out,” Sheridan House Family Ministries strive to offer single mothers in the tri-county area a “hand up.” They offers assistance in areas such as finances, parenting, resume preparation, interviewing, meal planning on a budget, appropriate dress, and more. The goal is to equip the single moms with the training and knowledge necessary to succeed in life.

Embrace the spring season as a chance to renew your spirit and participate in some community service. Hill York has long been a charitable supporter of Sheridan House and you can too. Learn more about how you can donate or volunteer visit http://www.sheridanhouse.org/web/.
